Behind The Scenes | The Look Of Love

Over the past few weeks, Maxwell – Scott have been busy on location in their hometown of York, England shooting for their Valentine’s Day campaign. With a powerful fusion of unlimited coffee, an incredibly creative team and unwavering motivation, ‘The Look Of Love’ was born. Read on to discover the magic behind the scenes of our latest photoshoot…

The Setting

The creative team chose to shoot on location in England as a homage to their heritage. In case you didn’t know, the Maxwell – Scott brand was born in the charming English city of York. Although since expanded to America, France and Germany, to name a few, Maxwell – Scott will always remain fond of their small city roots.

Set in a luxury white maisonette in the heart of York, this shoot’s location resonated with London’s most elegant Belgravia crescents. Characterized with black iron railings and a shiny silver door knocker outside, the scene was quintessentially British. Renowned for its rich history and grand architecture, York fit the brief seamlessly.

The Styling

behind the scenes

Behind the scenes, Jess (Content Manager) and Julia (Marketing Manager) worked hard to create looks that were elegant and timeless. To uphold Maxwell – Scott’s reputation for crafting timeless leather pieces, the shoot’s styling echoed classic modernism with a spotlight on tailoring. Structured lines were softened with warm neutral shades and light wool fabrics. Shapes were iconic: picture double-breasted jackets, roll-necks and delicate silk blouses.

The color palette was subtle and muted with blends of navy, marl grey and black. This contrasted against hues of ivory, white and cream. Heritage fabrics were key, with chalk stripe detailing on suits, puppytooth checks on outerwear and Breton stripes on shirts. Natural fabrics such as cotton and wool were used throughout the different looks to enhance the full-grain leather texture of the bags.

Flowers were absolutely central to the still life shots. The lovely Catherine of Sweetpea & Thyme supplied us with an assortment of gorgeous florals, ranging from elegant pink roses to violet-hued petals. The soft flowers complemented our luxury leather pieces perfectly – if you’re feeling generous, why not treat her to a beautiful leather purse and some high-end florals this Valentine’s Day?

The Team

behind the scenes

No campaign is complete without a talented team behind the scenes. With Sven Eselgroth commandeering the shots, the shoot was set to be a successful one from the get go. It was imperative that everyone pulled their weight with so much to do on set. From the runner to the Creative Director, all hands were on deck. Our Senior French & German PR Executives, Damien and Nicole, stepped out of the office to adopt the role of runners.

Creative Director, Adam, was at the helm for all three days of the shoot. Helen (Graphic Designer) and Laura (Content Executive) were tasked with set up, styling and shooting of the still life images. Teamwork is at the very heart of Maxwell – Scott: we pride ourselves on our high-calibre, creative employees who have a true passion for the brand.
