NYFW SS19 | The Best Street Style Moments

The NYFW SS19 collections were awash with color – Rodarte for example returned to New York after two years in Paris with a technicolor offering, decked in an abundance of flowers. This inevitably spilled out onto the streets, with unusual color combinations also another trend for the coming fall season. Whether a color pop from a single accessory to a full bold ensemble in a bright tone, color is playful this season.

This NYFW suffered a touch of British weather, that here at Maxwell-Scott we know all too well, with a deluge of rain from late Thursday onward. This unusually inspired street style stars to embrace weather-appropriate outwear. It called for the trusty trench to emerge but also, for more modern plastic raincoats to take center stage. Wearing both white and florals after labor day is always a challenge. Making this combination seasonally appropriate, nevertheless, seemed easy for those gracing the streets of NYFW. The key is to choose architectural designs that add an instant modernity to the look. Checks are one of the biggest print trends for FW18, along with a variation of animal prints. Think an old-school look, fit for the British countryside. For a modern, american take on this British classic wear the print as an over-sized suit or pair such a check with silver heels à la Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine. For such a traditional fabric, the check was therefore given a new lease of life by this NYFW and its attendees – clearly individually styled anyone can make check work for them.

The New York streets this week were awash with one color: sand. From soft cream to a light caramel, this was the go-to tone of the week. Once again color pop accessories were used to modernize this classic color. Also a requirement was an interesting and modern shape to the central piece. A boiler suit was a particular favorite of the street style crowd, which when worn in this sandy color ticked many boxes. Perhaps the most accessible of all of the trends evident at NYFW SS19 was the combination of high-waisted pants and a blouse. The trick? Go to the extreme with super high-waisted pants and a silky blouse with added interest. Lastly finish the look with a metallic heel for an elevated everyday look. To replicate this style for the office, however, swap the sparkle for a pump which matches your pant color as an effortless way in which to smarten the look and elongate the leg. This look is a true example of accessible street style for your wardrobe.
