The Comprehensive Guide To Men’s Leather Wallets

Choosing a wallet is a delicate affair. Find the right one and it will be by your side for many more years to come. Here is what to consider…

The Key Designs

Firstly, it is important to consider the particular wallet style that would suit your lifestyle best. After all, each of our men’s leather wallets is accompanied by a 25 year warranty which means that they are handcrafted to be used day after day, year after year. As such practicality is key. In general, our Italian leather wallet collection falls into three categories: the classic bifold, the credit card holder and the traditional suit jacket wallet.

The Alessio Wallet Collection

The Classic Bifold

A bifold (or alternatively known as billfold) wallet, is a true classic for the modern gentleman. It is designed to hold all that you may need on a daily basis, whilst remaining slim enough to be slipped into a pocket without adding any bulk. The decision then is between the intricacies of the designs, with the Vittore bifold wallet accommodating more cards than the Ticciano which has a coin pouch.

The Vittore

The Vittore features six credit card slots, two hidden pockets behind these credit card slots as well as sections for both notes and receipts. This means that is will always fold up neatly without your having to worry about added bulk. With this, it is best for the gentleman who prefers to carry cards rather than coins.

The Ticciano

The Ticciano, on the other hand, also accommodates a coin pouch. The wallet opens to three credit card slots to the left and an expandable coin pouch, fastened by a press stud, to the right. Behind these are two hidden pockets, plus sections for notes and receipts. Thus, the Ticciano luxury bi-fold wallet then is ideal for any discerning gentleman, with space for all the essentials.

The Marco Credit Card Holder

The Card Holder

For those who travel light, a single credit card holder is often ideal. Of course it can also be a useful addition to a bifold wallet but, importantly, the sleek design of a credit card case means that it can be slipped into a pocket or briefcase with ease. Consequently, the only consideration between the Marco and the Alberi is how many cards you need to carry on a daily basis.

The Marco

The Marco is the larger of the two options. With six credit card slots, each of which can hold a couple of cards if required, the Marco also has a cotton-lined mid-section for notes and receipts. As such, it truly provides space for the essentials within a distinctly smart design.

The Alberi

Conversely the Alberi only features two unique asymmetrical diagonal slots suitable for a couple of cards. This means that the Alberi is slightly more useful as an addition to a larger bifold wallet but, for the modern gentleman at an evening event, it is equally apt. It perfectly marries functionality, craftsmanship and simple design.

The Leather Options

Each of our premium men’s wallets is handcrafted from the finest full grain, vegetable-tanned leather to ensure its durability. Full grain refers to the strongest layer of the hide where the close grain pattern combines a distinctly functional durability with a naturally beautiful appearance. This is then celebrated by the traditional and environmentally-friendly process of vegetable-tanning. Here, extracts from the likes of the chestnut, mimosa and quebracho tree are imbued into the leather to result in a rich warm finish. It is thoughtful and considered production at its very best.

As a result the quality of our leather, that is then handcrafted by skilled artisans in the heart of Italy, is undeniable. This, however, does not mean that our leathers cannot adapt to your personal aesthetic. In fact, our luxury leather wallet collection for the modern gentleman features three different types of leather: Classico, Croco and Soft Grain.

Soft Grain

Classico

Classico is our signature leather. It is ideal for the gentleman with traditional taste as it has a classic finish that will develop a stunning patina over time.

Croco

For the individual with more unique style, our Croco leather adds a timeless texture to all attire. Here, our signature leather is heat-embossed to reveal this faux crocodile print for the modern gentleman.

Soft Grain

Perhaps our most contemporary leather is the newest addition to our collection – Soft Grain. As a butter-soft leather, with a matte finish, our soft grain leather is perfect for those searching for a more casual look when it comes to daily accessories.

The Embossing Service

To make your Maxwell-Scott men’s wallet completely unique to you, our experienced embossing team are able to personalize it with your initials or a sentimental date. This bespoke monogramming service is, therefore, the ideal finish to a wallet for yourself or as a gift. There are four colored foil finishes to choose from:

Blind means that there is no color embossed into the leather. It is a subtlest approach to personalization.

Gold best suits our chestnut tan and dark chocolate brown leathers as a classic addition to these rich leather shades.

Silver embossing is well matched with our signature black leather – creating a smart and modern combination.

Copper is our most contemporary option and can be used on any of our signature leather tones.

Whatever shade you choose, our embossing service really is the finishing touch to a wallet.

Please note that our embossing team is unable to personalize our Croco leather and that embossed items are non-refundable.
The After Care

Our leather requires relatively little care but any scratches or marks can be buffed or polished out easily. Therefore, there is no need for regular cleaning. Though if you want to give your Italian leather wallet a touch of TLC there are a few guidelines to follow.

To clean: simply dip a clean cloth into soapy water and gently polish the surface of your bag.

For grease stains: there is no need to worry about grease stains on the exterior of your wallet as they can be rubbed or polished out with ease.

To condition: Skidmore’s leather cream is our favorite leather care product by far. A small amount, in fact, it will maintain the fine quality of the exterior of your Maxwell-Scott wallet.

To avoid: Please do not use chemical products to clean your wallet. As our leathers are naturally tanned, chemical cleaners and conditioners can damage the surface of the leather, often doing more harm than good.

Rain: You should also avoid getting your Italian leather wallet wet but, if you are caught in a storm, gently blot away any drops of water immediately and let the wallet dry naturally away from a direct source of heat.
