How To Achieve The Duke & Duchess Of Sussex’s Casual Royal Tour Style

During the recent Sussex royal tour to South Africa, Harry and Meghan opted for a laidback wardrobe for their appearances. Here, we reveal how to adopt their casual travel wardrobe for your upcoming holidays…

An understated look whilst traveling is an ideal way to ensure you’re not wasting time on your outfit choices. It’s possible to opt for simple choices that still have impact. During their first day of the royal tour in Cape Town, the Duchess of Sussex opted for a minimal shirt dress, a style that has become her signature recently, in a bright blue hue. The bolder shade most definitely adds another element of interest to a straightforward outfit and, most importantly, is so easy to execute.

Harry, on the other hand, stuck to his classic natural hues to greet wellwishers in Cape Town, choosing a structured cotton suit in a light cotton fabric suitable for warmer temperatures. If you’re traveling but still need to look smart, this type of two-piece is a clever option. Whether you’re always trying to be the centre of attention, remember that simple can actually be the most effective way of dressing.

During a trip to Monwasibi beach, Meghan displayed her most casual outfit to date. With a denim jacket rolled up at the sleeves on top of a classic white shirt, her ensemble for this day of the royal tour couldn’t have been any more laidback and timeless. It didn’t, however, refrain her from charming the crowds of people that had come to wish them well.

The Duke of Sussex maintained a similar air of informality with a deep green linen shirt and a pair of muted grey chinos. Whether you’re always on the go whilst traveling or prefer to just simply relax, linen is an ideal fabric for maintaining your body temperature – so whether it’s hot or cold, you can travel comfortably.

The Monotone Approach

During the tour, the royal couple visited former residents of District Six, a community that was relocated after the apartheid. For this occasion, the Duchess of Sussex opted for a monochromatic style in the form of a classic tea dress. Adorned with a tribal-esque pattern including a small leopard print, it was the perfect nod to Africa’s culture in a very subtle manner.

The Duke chose a similar style, opting for a very traditional shirt in a laidback linen fabric teamed with a pair of smart chinos in a classic navy hue.

White is the simplest way to tone down any look in a refined and smart manner. On their final day of the tour, Harry and Meghan donned signature laidback styles once again with the duchess opting for a classic shirtdress tied in a bow at the waist with the sleeves rolled up. She decided to add a subtle touch of colour with a bright red pair of earrings – a simple and effective way to add an element of interest to an all-white look.

The Duke of Sussex mixed the colour palette of his tailored look with a pair of stone-hued trousers and a light blue linen blend jacket. This two-tone look is the perfect way for a gentleman to fuse smart with casual.
